MA Fashion

In my current work I explore the subject of femininity, its’ definition and accompanying misconceptions, however mostly I dispute modern society’s prejudices on the subject. Women’s fragility however understood, their sensitivity and emotionality are celebrated and desired in this project, allowing transparency and self-acceptance.

Practitioners, who I have been mostly inspired by, whose understanding of Fashion, as an industry and intellectual approach to Fashion design I admire are Haider Ackermann and Yohji Yamamoto. Despite the fact their methods of constructing Fashion are not only diverse and could not be more different from each other, I find Ackermann’s edgy, yet classically elegant drape and the genially constructed and manufactured aesthetic of Yamamoto’s collections are a perfect combination, promising the highest quality and complimenting the female form. Thus my aim is to successfully promote Creative Pattern cutting techniques, alongside finesse drape, exploring movement, using various weights of fabric and celebrating fragile femininity within the design. In addition to my interest and appreciation for craftsmanship and creative approach to pattern cutting, I also use media such as glass, in this instance symbolising fragility and sensitivity and a wide variety of materials, allowing transparency and depth to become an important aspect in my design development and completed pieces.
