East Gallery

East Gallery is a city centre public art space showcasing a programme of exhibitions by internationally recognised artists, curators, and design practitioners

Exhibitions are originated by Norwich University of the Arts or in collaboration with national and international partners. All our exhibitions are accompanied by seminars and lectures delivered by specialists and curators, which enrich the University experience for students and those living and working in Norwich, as well as visitors to our city.

This summer East Gallery is launching East Projects, a new series of exhibitions, performances and events that showcase current research from Norwich University of the Arts in the disciplines of Fine Art, Film, Photography, Design and Gaming.

The East Gallery venue and programme is funded by Norwich University of the Arts.

Fabricate: a Technicians’ Showcase

8 May – 8 June 2024 | East Gallery | Free admission

A fabulous mix of digital and physical, traditional, and cutting-edge artworks made by the technicians at Norwich University of the Arts. Covering Animation, Architecture, Film, Fine Art and Textiles at the University, our talented technicians nurture students with their wealth of subject knowledge and industry experience. In this exhibition, we get a glimpse into their own personal art practices.

Previous exhibition:

Milk Bath

Sophie Koko Gate: Milk Bath

Two digital angels fall to Earth, what do they make of humanity? Milk Bath is a new collection of 3D animated film and sculpture from Sophie Koko Gate marking a turning point in her practice. The celestial beings become vessels of the artist’s subconscious, creating moments of fantasy connection and unexpected tenderness.

As the angels theorize our essence, we watch from the shadows, secure in the belief that they are oblivious to our presence.

The exhibition immerses visitors in a dream-like world where the boundaries between reality and fantasy blur, inviting discussion around digital voyeurism and what it means to be human at the dawn of a new era.
