Norwich University of the Arts (NUA) has unveiled its poster campaign for this year’s BA Degree Shows with a design that has raised eyebrows – literally in the case of student Jamin Galea whose Jack Nicholson-esque arched brow features prominently.
Graphic Design students Alexandra Wylde and Rachel Price with their winning design
The design, which has been created by students Alexandra Wylde and Rachel Price, was selected from a number of submissions by students on NUA’s Year 3 Graphic Design course, who were set the project as part of their preparations for their degree show which takes place from 22nd – 28th June.
Alexandra says: “We would like to think that anyone visiting the degree show will be amazed by the work they see. This idea is that ‘wow face’ – the expression you have when you see something that really impresses you! The idea works for the wide variety of work produced in NUA, it represents all courses here.”
NUA’s BA Degree Shows provide an exhibition setting for students’ final degree work, which is showcased across the campus spanning Duke Street and St Georges Street, plus this year in Cinema City. The event is open to employers, art buyers, gallery owners and curators, agency representatives, VIPs, family, friends and the general public and proceedings begin with a private view event, which provides a platform for students to engage with visitors, sell their work and field questions, enquiries and offers.
The poster design will be used in online and offline advertising commissioned by NUA as part of a national marketing programme to attract key decision makers to experience the best that the University College’s cohort of graduating students can produce.
Graphic Design Senior Lecturer Lucy Blazey says: “We saw some contrasting ideas from the students and many were equally as good, but Alex and Rachel’s design was particularly innovative.”
Rachel adds: “We were shocked to win as we had fierce competition from our fellow graphic designers! It has been a good experience in preparing the poster for print and adjusting the layout for different magazine adverts. We hope it brings a lot of people to Norwich on the 22nd of June!”
Staff and students featured in NUA press releases are available for further comment.
Our academic staff are leading practitioners and researchers in the fields of the arts, design and media. They are available to provide expert comment on regional, national and international news stories related to higher education and the creative arts.
