NUA student wins ‘Best Student Book’ at The British Book Awards

A Norwich student’s book design project has won the Best Student Book Award at one of the most prestigious and popular national literary events of the year.

Thomas Lynes designed Four Parts Sand/One Part Cement to accompany an exhibition as part of a project for his BA (Hons) Design for Publishing degree course at Norwich University of the Arts. He was encouraged to submit the project for the Best Student Book category of the British Book Design and Production Awards and was announced the winner at an awards ceremony in November at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel in Knightsbridge, central London.

Thomas’s entry was described by the judges as featuring “fantastic monotone imagery”. He adds: “Winning was a huge honour and a great way to sign off three enjoyable years in Norwich.”

Thomas’s success follows that of fellow NUA student Sarah Strandoo, who won the award in 2014 with her illustrated children’s book The Fox and the Bear. Organised by the British Printing Industries Federation, Oxford Brookes University and the Publishers Association, the awards aim to bring together designers, printers and publishers to recognise and promote the excellence of the British book design and production industry by celebrating the best books of the year.
