A BA Photography student has won a place as an accredited photographer at next season’s London Fashion Week plus an EOS 650D camera after winning Canon’s ‘Shoot like a Pro’ competition.
Charlotte Simpson (20) from Hartford in Huntingdon is in her final year at Norwich University of the Arts (NUA). Her work was selected from over 110 entries as the overall winner of an assignment set by Canon UK to shoot, edit, caption and file a five-image portfolio within 30 minutes from the recent 2012 London Fashion Weekend shows.
Charlotte, who attended the event alongside 19 other students from NUA, says: “As a student who wants to work in the Fashion industry it was brilliant to be able to get this experience before I even graduate. We were given places in the photographer pits for the LFWeekend Trend Show and for Issa London where Canon set us a brief and a deadline to work towards. It was definitely a ‘money can’t buy’ experience which I’m very grateful for, and now to have won the chance to shoot the big London Fashion Week is just madness.”
NUA’s BA Photography course provides comprehensive preparation for a career in photography with strengths in advertising, editorial and fashion. It is affiliated to the Association of Photographers and provides a strong emphasis on developing an understanding of the market, the needs of clients and the importance of audiences.
NUA Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Media Keith Bartlett adds: “Gaining insight into the real world industry is a major focus of all courses offered at Norwich University of the Arts and our thanks go to Canon for providing an opportunity for our students to experience London Fashion Week as professionals. Charlotte’s work was of an exceptional standard and all our student feedback on the event was tremendously enthusiastic and reported a valuable experience.”
Staff and students featured in NUA press releases are available for further comment.
Our academic staff are leading practitioners and researchers in the fields of the arts, design and media. They are available to provide expert comment on regional, national and international news stories related to higher education and the creative arts.
All camera crews and photographers need advance permission to operate on the NUA campus. Alternatively the University has a wealth of photography and footage which can be provided on request.
Members of the press are welcome to attend all events at NUA. Most exhibitions on the campus, including the Degree Shows, will have a private view event in advance of the public opening for the press and special guests. Details of these events are available on request.
We are delighted to arrange campus tours and on-campus interviews with staff and students.
