NUA Chancellor knighted in New Years Honours List

Norwich University of the Arts (NUA) Chancellor John Hurt has been included in the 2015 New Years Honours list. The internationally renowned actor, who lives in Norfolk, received his knighthood in recognition of a film career that has spanned more than 150 films over 50 years and has already earned him two Oscar nominations, a Golden Globe and four BAFTAs.

Professor John Last, NUA Vice-Chancellor, said: “I speak on behalf of all the staff and students at NUA when I say how delighted we our with Chancellor’s inclusion in the New Years Honours list. John has made a tremendous contribution to NUA’s work and helped raise its national and international profile in the years he has served as our Chancellor. We congratulate Sir John on this award and look forward to welcoming him at his next official engagement at the University.”

John Hurt’s credits include John Merrick in The Elephant Man, wandmaker Mr Ollivander in the Harry Potter series, Quentin Crisp in The Naked Civil Servant and Control in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. He was appointed as NUA’s first Chancellor in 2012 and presided over graduation ceremonies in 2013 and 2014. Last year he conducted the launch of the University’s 170th anniversary programme of celebrations which will take place throughout 2015.
