Barbara, who is from Bury St Edmunds, is studying MA Fine Art at Norwich University of the Arts. She shared the prize with Anglia Ruskin University MA Printmaking student Diana Scarborough.
Barbara said: “I’ve been using printmaking as part of my wider practice for about five years. I entered the Gainsborough Graduate Printmakers’ Award because I think it’s important when developing work as an artist to test it in different professional contexts.
“I’m delighted to get the Award. This is a new prize and the aim is to publicise printmaking in the region’s colleges and also to support a graduate as they move on from college into their career as an artist. It’s a very practical scheme and it’s enormously encouraging to get this recognition.”
Entry for the prize was open to student artists and designers enrolled in degree or postgraduate courses in East Anglia. As well as participation in the Bury St Edmonds exhibition, which is open from 10th to 15th December, the winners received one year’s free membership of the Gainsborough’s House Print Workshop. Gainsborough’s House is an art museum based in the birthplace of the eighteenth century artist Thomas Gainsborough in Sudbury, Suffolk.
