The Good Spa Guide is an established, growing business which helps people to choose spas and treatments most suitable for their needs. The Guide is unique in its market, and works as an online and physical publication.
The team at The Good Spa Guide wanted to launch a new magazine, to supplement their Good Spa Guide. They wanted the magazine to be disseminated online, and as a physical publication through spas, and would offer consumer orientated editorial, to complement the information available in the Guide.
The Good Spa Guide approached ideasfactoryNUA to create a design identity for the new magazine, which would work as an aesthetic framework for the editorial and features. The design needed to be elegant, fresh, and needed to encapsulate the benefits of the spa experience. The team wanted the new magazine to echo the design of the Guide itself, but required it to stand apart as a publication with a distinct role; to entertain and inform.
BA Design for Publishing students – Jordan Roberts, Sarah Peters and Amber-May Meadows – and BA Photography student – Gemma Lock – were brought together as a working group to gain real world commercial experience in creating page designs and images. The student team successfully came up with a design identity for the new magazine, which included the front cover and masthead design, product photographs, as well as a system for the inside pages.
On display at the launch event
The final printed magazine was revealed in May at a launch event at Weavers’ House, a brand new spa in Lavenham, Suffolk. VIP guests and members of the press enjoyed free spa treatments as well as advance copies and opportunities to talk to the University students and staff involved in the project.
“It was a pleasure to work with the ideasfactoryNUA. It was great to have the creative input and the students were excellent at coming up with new and unusual concepts. With the assistance of their tutor, the students produced a beautifully presented, high-spec magazine.”
