Year Three student Charlotte Simpson has won a place as an accredited photographer at next season’s London Fashion Week plus an EOS 650D camera after winning Canon’s ‘Shoot like a Pro’ competition. Her work was selected from over 110 entries as the overall winner of an assignment set by Canon UK to shoot, edit, caption and file a five-image portfolio within 30 minutes from the recent 2012 London Fashion Weekend shows.
Award-winning photographer Tim Flach delivered a guest lecture on picture composition to BA Photography students at NUA. His talk looked at similarities in iconic images by world renowned photographers and classical painters. Tim is best known for his conceptual animal portraits and as the author of two books: Dogs Gods and Equus. His images have twice been featured on Royal Mail stamps and his clients have included the Sunday Times, Cirque du Soleil, Sony, Hermès and the Locarno International Film Festival.
The Association of Photographers has selected work by Year Three students Joe Meers and Clare Fisher on the shortlist for its 2012 Student Awards. The students’ images will be exhibited at the Hoxton Gallery in Shoreditch from 15th-19th May, with the winners announced on the opening night.
Year Two student Simon Bell has won Best of Year at the D&AD Student Awards 2012 for his response to a brief set by Rankin, which asked for a fashion story or special feature for ‘The Hunger’ focusing on the cross over between texture and photography. His work will be promoted online and in a Student Awards special edition digital magazine promoted to the press, potential employers and the creative community worldwide.
Giulia Ranchetti (Year Two) has had an image chosen for the 31 Women in Art Photography Exhibition’ at the Hasted Kraeutler gallery in New York from the 25th July to 17th August 2012.
Year Two student Adam Burton’s work has been chosen for the Humble Art’s Foundation Small Works exhibition at the Flash Forward festival in Boston between the 7th and 10th June 2012.
International celebrity photographer Andy Earl has given a lecture to Photography students at NUA about his career, which has included over 25 magazine covers and 120 album covers for music stars such as Prince, Madonna, Johnny Cash and Robbie Williams. Andy also spent time with Year Three students providing one to one tutorials and toured the new East Garth Photography Studio.
