With animation being one of the most rapidly expanding areas in the creative industries, there are a variety of career opportunities available in roles such as animator, art director, special effects animator, storyboard artist and character designer.
Some students have continued with postgraduate study and have gained places on Animation Direction at the Royal College of Art and the National Film and Television School. The MA in Moving Image and Sound at NUA also provides logical progression for BA Animation students. All NUA undergraduates receive discounted tuition fees if they choose to continue with their postgraduate studies at NUA.
Recent graduates work for major companies such as Disney, Sony, Warner Brothers, Aardman, EA and the BBC. Others work for smaller independent studios and some work as freelance animators. Typical career opportunities include:
“We had really inspiring lectures from key people from the industry who passed on their knowledge and guidance. Since graduating I have worked on a whole range of projects such as music videos, documentaries, television adverts, short films and infomercials.”
Graphics Artist and Digital Animator
“I’m an animator and motion capture technician at Imagination Studios in Sweden. The animated film I produced at NUA was nominated for Best Animated Debut at the Golden Kuker Animation Festival in Sofia, Bulgaria. I worked on the ‘Triple A’ title Battlefield 3.”
“After I graduated I was selected for an Aardman Animations/ Creative Skillset professional course. I would not have had the credentials or the confidence to apply without the experience and invaluable support I gained at NUA.”
Loose Moose Productions
“I had such a blast at NUA, the years just flew by. I learnt so many new key ingredients to help me with my current job. As soon as you learn the basics in a variety of programs and media like Flash, After Effects, stop motion and traditional 2D animation the course lets you create what you want and show off your true personality.”
