Part-time Hourly Lecturer – Textile Design
We are looking for an enthusiastic lecturer who can teach at all levels across the course, focusing on design thinking and commercial awareness in relation to printed textiles and surface design / embellishment
The BA (Hons) Textile Design course at NUA offers an exciting mix of conceptual exploration and practical design thinking across the disciplines of Print, Weave, Knit and Stitch. The course prides itself on delivery of a curriculum that enables students to explore a variety of career opportunities within and beyond the discipline by a strong team of academic staff and technical staff.
You will be involved in developing and delivering a dynamic curriculum that reflects contemporary shifts in the industry and society more widely such as sustainable and responsible design, inclusive design, health and wellbeing.
This part-time hourly lecturer role involves working primarily in a studio setting delivering taught sessions such as workshops, seminars and tutorials but may also include the preparation and delivery of online teaching. Administrative duties such as register-taking, preparing handouts and course material and writing tutorial notes are also an essential part of this post. You will work with the Course Leader to organise and deliver an engaging and innovative curriculum that values sustainable and ethical practices and champions inclusivity.
The successful candidate will have broad professional experience within the design industry, ranging from commercial design, trend research /interpretation and manufacturing. You will have experience of at least two of the following: concept development, drawing techniques, material / surface design, digital design and be able to demonstrate ability to design and deliver appropriate teaching sessions in these areas, and ideally through relevant HE level teaching experience.
Please note that teaching sessions are scheduled in 2.5 hour blocks from 10.00 – 12.30 and 14.00 – 16.30; scheduled sessions for this role will predominantly include two blocks per day delivered on Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays from November 2021 to May 2022.
