Lecturer/Senior Lecturer – Graphic Communication (maternity cover)
We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer (depending on experience) to act as Subject Lead for the Graphic Communication course on a temporary basis to cover a period of maternity leave.
The BA (Hons) Graphic Communication course is a contemporary, forward-facing brand communications course, that encourages its students to design for digital/screen environments, as well as print. Students work in motion, UI and film, as well as typography, identity and advertising. We emphasise ethical, conscious and inclusive design across all our teaching.
The role involves working with the Course Leader to coordinate and deliver the Year 2 and Year 3 programme of the course. The post holder will plan, organise and deliver an engaging and innovative curriculum which values sustainable and ethical practices and champions inclusivity. You will be an active member of an established team of academic staff involved in duties which range from recruitment and outreach to supporting graduate employability. Liaising with the professional services teams and working closely with a number of stakeholders across the university will be a key part of the role. Key duties include planning and delivering units, workshops, lectures, seminars and tutorials and assessment of student work.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of contemporary graphic design practices, and the current demands of industry and demonstrate strategies to help prepare students for a highly competitive employment market. Skills and experience in applying graphic design across a wide range of screen/digital environments, including design for web, app design and UI/UX, as well as print applications, is essential. Experience and understanding of interdisciplinary working, design-thinking, digital design, cross-platform branding and human-centred/issue-based problem-solving is highly desirable.
You will have a credible and up-to-date background in graphic design, through both professional practice and relevant academic experience. You will be able to demonstrate your skills as an engaging, supportive and inclusive teacher and have the ability to deliver innovative and engaging digital and on-campus teaching sessions. You will be able to demonstrate high levels of organisational skills and the ability to work with colleagues across the university to ensure a high-quality student experience.
