Textile Design students celebrate success in national competitions

BA (Hons) Textile Design students have been celebrating success in a range of national competitions in spring 2018.

NUA students at the Society of Colourists and Dyers awards

NUA students won 1st and 2nd prize in the London heat of Society of Dyers and Colourists competition and a further four prizes in the Bradford Textile Society Competition.

First prize in the Society of Dyers and Colourists competition went to Year 3 student Megan Stavaru, second prize to Florence Dennis (Year 2), while Iga Szymanska (Year 3) was highly commended. The awards were held at the Fashion and Textile Museum London.

In the Bradford Textile Society Competition:

  • Brandon Wen Jie Tan (Year 2) won first prize in The Bradford Textile Archive Award for best student design using an historical source to inspire a contemporary furnishing fabric.
  • Leah Bolton (Year 3) won second prize in the The Worshipful Company of Dyers award for a printed textile design for fashion submitted on any base fabric.
  • Lizzie Kimbley (MA student) won third prize in the British Wool Award for a design demonstrating the versatility of British wool.
  • Rosie-May Greenbank (Year 2) was highly commended in the Clothworkers’ Company award for a woven fabric design for fashion.
