MA student creates official trailer for London Short Film Festival
MA student Julian Hinds has been commissioned to create the official trailer for the forthcoming London Short Film Festival.
The festival, now in its 15 year, is one of the centrepieces of the UK independent film calendar. Julian, a student on the MA Moving Image and Sound, said the trailer commission followed engagement with the festival over a number of years as a film-maker and a light show artist.
“Stylistically I wanted to explore an experimental and filmic aesthetic bringing grain, texture and the unique celluloid colour pallet to the piece. I prefer (when I can) to work with Super 8mm film and the festival wanted me to maintain a celluloid trace within the trailer’s production,” he said.
Julian said London became the subject of his filmic experiments. “The festival gave me the opportunity to experiment with new ideas and techniques,” he added. “The challenge was to find the balance between what I wanted to explore from an experimental perspective and what the festival needed as a marketing tool. I think we found it and have an exciting visual piece to herald in next year’s festivities.”
The trailer is available to watch online.
