Fungus the Bogeyman VFX Artist visits NUA

Visual effects students were given the inside story of how Fungus the Bogeyman moved from printed page to the small screen by Andy Hargreaves, CG Supervisor at Double Negative.

On a visit to NUA, Andy talked students through the process from the original inventive rig, the shoot at Chislehurst caves and the amazing animation work that brought Raymond Briggs’ beloved character to life for Sky1.

Andy has more than 17 years’ experience in the VFX industry at companies such as Cinesite, Blue Zoo, Rushes and now works at Double Negative across a range of film, television and commercial projects. Although graduating as an animator, his work since spans storyboarding and character design, to matchmove and roto, to lighting, compositing and on set supervision.

“It was an absolute pleasure coming out to Norwich, I had a really good day,” Andy said. “You’ve got a good bunch of students there and they all seem very dedicated and enthusiastic which was lovely to see.
