International student experience

The UK has an international reputation for excellence in higher education and as a cultural and commercial hub for the arts. Choosing to study your degree programme at a graduate school in the UK means gaining a globally-recognised qualification and professional experience that will set you apart from other graduates.

Norwich is home to international students from over 40 countries. Their contribution to the University’s creative and cultural life is widely recognised.

To help international students get the most out of their experience and feel at home in England, the International Office hosts a comprehensive orientation programme before enrolment and a year-long programme of events designed to help overseas students understand British culture and integrate into their courses.

Some students will speak exclusively in English for the first time when they arrive at Norwich. Others will encounter new and challenging political, social and artistic ideas. Many will use their time in the UK to travel all over Great Britain and Europe.

Being an international student requires confidence and self-reliance, but for those times when help and guidance is needed, the University offers pastoral support, free English language tutorials, as well as learning support for written work and study skills.

Specialist study

Specialist art and design education is focused on the development of creative skills through practice. Instead of formal classrooms, you’ll study hands-on in studios and workshops that mirror industry.

You’ll be assessed on the projects you create, not by exams. And you will be supported by academic and technical staff who are artists, designers and accomplished researchers in their field.

At Norwich, you’ll develop your practice through making: refining technical skills, learning from mistakes and successes, working for real clients and in collaboration with peers. All this to build a portfolio to kick start your career

Professional preparation

Every degree course at Norwich emphasises employability, which simply means you’ll graduate prepared to succeed in your chosen career.

You’ll have the chance to network with visiting lecturers from industry and opportunities to undertake work experience through internships and placements, as well as competitions and live projects.

Networking events, industry panels and practical workshops will help you develop entrepreneurial and business skills. Independent projects will help you build networks and learn the art of self-promotion. You’ll also benefit from specialist careers advice and employment guidance – even after graduation.

You will undertake projects designed to help you pinpoint where in your sector you’ll want to work and you’ll spend time researching the trends shaping your industry.

Every course benefits from the contribution of a professional network, including an Industry Liaison Group, professional panels and guest lecturers. Many courses boast the Creative Skillset mark of approval, an industry accreditation that means graduates are three times more likely to work in their chosen field after graduation.
