Ted Stoltz

MA Communication Design

I draw my inspiration from a variety of subjects. The greater one’s range of interests, the more opportunities exist for creativity to flourish. I’ve worked professionally as a designer, multimedia producer and art teacher. This has given me a diverse skill set to draw on to realise my ideas. As a filmmaker and writer, I am also passionate about storytelling. Much of my work deals with the development, understanding, and cultural relevance of the narratives which enrich our lives.

For the master’s project, I’ve chosen to work with ergodic literature—using typography, layout and design principles to tell a story in a way that encourages the reader’s engagement with the narrative. I’ve written a story with aspects that will be familiar to artists of any discipline: the struggle to develop one’s visions and be recognised for their work. In addition to writing the narrative, I also designed and illustrated the 65 page book. Using nontraditional typesetting, colour and layout elements, I’ve created a fun and engaging visual experience for the reader.
