– Anjula Crocker, 2013
My name is Anjula, and I am an alcoholic. Twelve steps and counting is a body of work exploring and cataloguing my understanding of a process through some of the multifaceted elements of seduction, obsession and addiction, on the path of recovery. This arguably private journey illuminated perceived fears and prejudices surrounding the painful and destructive nature of addiction apparent in society.
The work represents part of that journey and my addiction has been sated by the process of painting with obsessive attention to detail, printing and reproducing the images in different mediums and reworking them – stitching, layering and quilting, bringing 12 individual paintings together into one work.
