Modern design often over-focuses on style and through doing so; fails to communicate what really matters. The overuse of style at the expense of content is a major subject matter that I challenge throughout my work.

Often, the work deconstructs and re-examines wider cultural issues; war, piracy, media and the internet using various design mediums to explore some of these disconnections. The work often uses a mixture of journalism; language, typography, and photography; juxtaposed with complicated sets of information; news, data and statistics.

Using mixed media; data representation alongside expressive print-techniques; collage, cut-outs, photography and colour; the work helps to tackle the tension between objectively informing and emotionally persuading. The emotional tone of the work also aims to provide an intimate and human commentary on these issues, often from an outsider’s perspective.

Over the past four years, I have created work tackling diverse subjects such as size issues within the fashion industry, dehumanising war infographics, film piracy, newspaper sensationalism, online identity and sustainability using my background of publishing as a basis for the finished work.
