A film experience that mixes the 2D and the 3D is coming to Norwich as international artist and professor of film Tony Hill presents ‘See Things Differently’ at The Gallery at Norwich University of the Arts, opening on Tuesday 12 November.
Described as “bizarre and sometimes humorous”, Tony Hill’s work springs from his studies in sculpture and architecture, utilising his own bespoke camera rigs with mirrors and unusual lenses to challenge the viewer’s assumptions about perspective, gravity, scale and movement.
The exhibition includes ‘The Doors’, an installation created using three projectors and incorporating the entire installation space, projecting life-size images of people entering or leaving the dark space through a door from a light space. When all doors are shut the viewer is plunged into darkness.
Tony Hill has been independently creating films for 40 years and usually takes on all aspects of production, including developing and building his own equipment. He has presented his work at galleries and festivals around the world and his films have been published in the UK and Japan, winning several awards.
See Things Differently opens at The Gallery at NUA on St Georges Street from Tuesday 12 to Saturday 23 November, 12pm to 5pm (closed Sunday and Monday). Admission is free.
Staff and students featured in NUA press releases are available for further comment.
Our academic staff are leading practitioners and researchers in the fields of the arts, design and media. They are available to provide expert comment on regional, national and international news stories related to higher education and the creative arts.
