Students

Our students are our greatest advocates. Find out what they have to say about studying curation at NUA.

I have loved NUA since the very first time I came here for an Open Day back when I was thinking about my BA. As soon as I arrived it just felt right for me.

I have felt able to explore my own curatorial interests in a supportive and enthusiastic environment and encouraged to think beyond the course to the next stage of my professional development. Studying alongside the MA Fine Art students has enabled me to understand issues in contemporary curation in a very practical way and working with external partners, such as the Arts Council and the Sainsbury Centre has provided me with invaluable exposure to curatorial practice at the highest level.

Christine Pike
MA Curation graduate

Initially the most crucial aspect of the course was considering what might define ‘curation’, what it is and where it might happen. As the course progressed I came to understand a curator as more than an organiser of an exhibition or a ‘custodian of objects’. The course led to me redefining my entire artistic practice and formulating a set of creative skills that are now far more wide reaching.

Alison Humphrey
MA Curation graduate

The course at NUA appealed to me because it welcomes applications from people without a Fine Art or History of Art background. Since it doesn’t impose these restrictions I feel it can become a more innovative course as it will be informed by students from varied sectors. It also has a practical emphasis, other courses I looked at were more theory-based.
