Flagship Housing Group

Visual strategy

Background

Flagship Housing Group is a not-for-profit housing provider which wanted to develop a striking and effective image to communicate its aspirations and key corporate messages.

Brief

Design an engaging image to communicate the brand’s strategic direction to all stakeholders.

Solution

A number of students were briefed to work with Academic staff from Graphic Design. Several solutions were proposed which looked at various visual styles including an architect style ‘impression’, computer aided design (CAD) style imagery and more illustrative approaches. Four different creative responses to the brief were presented to Flagship’s board of directors. The presentations were delivered by the business director and questions answered by students, academic staff and the business director. Following the meeting, two of the routes were chosen for further development.

Results

The winning route entitled ‘Community Spirit’ reflects an inviting and friendly community and clearly communicates Flagship’s key messages and values regarding customer service and performance. The real strength of the design is its flexibility, proven by its application to other elements of Flagship’s marketing and communication material, including customer newsletters and bulk mailing. Flagship now plans to embed ‘Our strategy’ into its culture, using the image as an aid to learning and communication.
