What I’m learning at NUA is having a big practical impact on what I teach and how I teach. I’ve taken tons of stuff from the course and implemented it in the classroom.

I studied for my BA in Hong Kong and was keen to study abroad for MA. I was looking for a course that was professionally focused. Initially I was looking at US universities but the fees were very high. I decided on the UK and looked at university league tables.

The course at NUA appealed to me because it has a practical emphasis, other courses I looked at were more theory-based.

MA Curation

- Alison Humphrey

I was attracted to MA Curation because of the quality and experience of the tutors including Lynda Morris and Krzysztof Fijalkowski. I had been so passionate about my 10,000 word extended dissertation for BA that writing was taking a front seat in my practice and it was something I wanted to explore further in the MA.

I knew NUA had a reputation for challenging students to broaden their practice within a supportive and professionally focused environment. Having come back into academia from industry I have found the faculty, tutors and facilities have all helped me to develop my visual identity. I am not at NUA by chance. My decision to come here initially as an Erasmus student was based on my deep research looking at the level of professionalism at different and famous universities.

The facilities at NUA are very good. I make a lot of use of the print making facilities and I’ve also had an induction in the 3D workshop in case I need to use it

“The work I produced during the MA course really benefited my portfolio and career progression. But more importantly than this it changed my way of thinking and I hope that this will stay with me for the rest of my career.”

One of the most valuable aspects of the course was the absolute freedom to pursue projects on a much larger scale both in terms of complexity and timeframe. The MA course tutors focused a great deal on asking us to be critical of our work within the design framework.
