Norwich University of the Arts announced the shortlist for the Bishop’s Art Prize 2012 today. The prize, established by the Bishop of Norwich, the Rt Revd Graham James and NUA Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Last, is open to all final year students at the University College to enter.
Students are invited to submit either two or three dimensional pieces of work in response to a brief set by the Bishop. This year’s theme is “I have a dream…”, the inspirational quote by Dr Martin Luther King and allows students the freedom to respond in a spiritual or religious way.
In total, 25 students have been shortlisted for the prize, worth £1,000 to the winner, plus there are two runner up prizes of £500 and £250. All shortlisted entries are to be shown in a public exhibition held at The Hostry, Norwich Cathedral which opens on Tuesday 19th June 2012.
The winner will be selected by a judging panel comprising of the Rt Revd Graham James, Professor John Last, artist and NUA graduate, Susan Gunn and Course Leader for Fine Art, Carl Rowe.
Professor John Last commented: “I am delighted to continue the prize with the support of the Bishop of Norwich and I thank him and our other generous supporters who offer prizes and awards to our students. This is the largest exhibition we have held for the Bishop’s Art Prize which reflects the high standard of work produced by students from our arts, design and media courses at NUA.”
The exhibition opens to the public from Tuesday 19th June – Thursday 28th June 2012. Opening times: Daily 9.30am – 4.30pm except Sunday 12 noon – 3.00pm.
