Graduates from the course are multi-skilled lateral thinkers and innovators.

An understanding of the fundamentals of photographic practice and the industry prepares them for work in a variety of contexts, as Photographers, Assistant Photographers, Digital Retouchers, Art Directors, Stylists and Agents. Graduates progress to both freelance practice and employment and also to postgraduate studies.

The MA in Photography at NUA provides a logical progression route for BA Photography students. All NUA undergraduates receive a tuition fee discount if they choose to continue with their postgraduate studies at NUA.

BA Photography will help your progression into various creative careers. The skills you will develop such as creative problem solving, ideas generation and communicating in teams are also highly desirable in many other sectors outside of the creative industries. Typical career opportunities include:

  • Photographer
  • Photography Assistant
  • Photographer’s Agent
  • Digital Retoucher
  • Curator
  • Art Director
  • Picture Librarian
  • Technician
  • Image Producer

I shoot still life and portraits and have worked for lots of magazines including Esqure and Men’s Fitness as well as for companies such as BT, Adidas and FIFA. There is no question that I would not be doing what I am now without having been at NUA.

My photography tutors believed in my work and my ambitions to pursue a career in fashion photography and helped me start my career outside of university whilst still studying. They encouraged me to work outside of university with the opportunities that I had and then feed my commercial client work into my degree.
