My practice covers a number of parallel projects. I am working on a series of designs that use text as the imagery for repeat structures. In this I am exploring how text can be used as a motif within pattern and also as an image to create texture. Some of the text has significance to the pattern whist others have little connection to the design.
This work also incorporates aspects of my ongoing interest in creating textile designs from the remnants of other image making processes. This has also resulted in a series of conclusions created from printed papers and electrical tapes.
The above practices are also supported by a range of drawing investigations. In my academic role I am interested in teaching drawing, investigation of repeat structures and CAD for repeat. In 2013 I led a project: ‘Changing the Learning Landscape’ Picking up the Pieces: Defragmenting the online student experience. This was supported by the leadership foundation and JISC. This project gave me the opportunity to work with students to gain insight into their use of online communication systems and to propose strategies that will support student engagement.
